The NDAA Act includes provisions related to the procurement and use of certain technologies, including cameras, by the U.S. federal government. In particular, the NDAA for Fiscal Year 2019 and subsequent years includes provisions related to the prohibition of certain video surveillance and telecommunications equipment from being used or procured by federal agencies. This prohibition is primarily aimed at addressing concerns about potential security risks associated with using products from specific manufacturers, often those based in China. The NDAA’s Section 889 specifies that federal agencies are prohibited from procuring or using certain telecommunications and video surveillance equipment or services from specific companies, including Huawei, ZTE, Hytera Communications Corporation, Hikvision, and Dahua Technology.
